My Chosen Music for the Opening Scene

Now that I've finished filming and I am organising my footage for editing, I have decided that I want two pieces of non-diegetic music to play at different points over my opening scene. One of the changes I made to my film led to a change in tone, making it a slightly more comically toned crime film, rather than a brutal gangster film (at least initially).

I have changed my ideas for the music in line with the changes to my opening scene (previously the music was much harder and edgier because the focus of my opening scene was going to be on the protagonist committing crime), and I have decided that the music I originally picked is no longer suitable in establishing character the way I want.

My opening scene largely consists of my protagonist living a domesticated life, having given up his previous status as a criminal kingpin in London. For this part of the scene, I wanted something lighter and a bit more pleasant, so that the music wouldn't suggest threat or danger to the audience. For this section (which is the majority of the scene) I have chosen 'A Message to You Rudy' by The Specials.

At the end of my opening scene, the tone shifts as the audience see the protagonist reaching for a gun in a drawer and turning nervously outside. Here, I wanted something a bit more threatening and aggressive, so I have chosen to use 'Firestarter' by The Prodigy (which will play mostly over the last few titles).
