Opening Scenes and Location - 'Manchester By The Sea'

The first film that I'm looking at for introducing location/setting is 'Manchester by the Sea'.

The film 'Manchester by the Sea' is set in coastal Massachusetts. The opening establishing shots indicate to the audience that it is quite a remote area. It also comes across that life here is placid, languid and slow. The setting indicates as much about the people as it does about the environment. It also shows the pace of life in the countryside compared to how the pace of life would be like in the city. The location's isolation establishes a bleak tone for the film, creating the expectation for the audience that something bad will happen here.
