Opening Scenes and Character, Setting and Enigma - Conclusion

Now I have looked at lots of opening sequences I have realised that more often than not the opening scene either introduces character, setting or creates enigma (sometimes doing all three). Once I have decided what genre I am going to do, I will decide which of these I will focus on.

I am thinking of creating a crime film, so I may focus on introducing character and creating enigma, as I have seen in the opening scene for 'Goodfellas'.
